interests

While some of my interests are in my Hobbies sidebar, I think it's still good to reiterate them here – bear with me.

general
Includes all non-media-related interests.

Art – I'm a self-taught artist. I don't draw nearly as much as I should, but I'm trying to change that.

Baking – I like to bake! Primarily desserts rather than pastries or bread, but I've tried my hand at those too. Unfortunately I don't have as much time or energy to do this as I'd like... plus I'm only one person, so making several dozen cookies is a bit overkill for just me.

Cats – As mentioned on my About page, I have two cats. I just think they're neat and like knowing cool cat facts or tips on how to care for them.

Coding – I consider myself an extreme novice at best when it comes to coding web design (HTML/CSS), but it's something I've become interested in so here it is. I also know how to write R code for statistical analyses, and would like to learn more.

Doll Customizing – I watch a lot of doll customizing videos, specifically using Monster High dolls, and am hoping to try my hand at the craft soon. It sounds like a fun way to build some multimedia art skills.

Keyboards – I build my own keyboards on occasion! I find soldering kind of meditative, and I like picking out a perfect keyboard/keycap set color combo or theme. I also sometimes collect artisans, which are handmade keycaps from other hobbyists. I really admire the artistry and would love to try my hand at resin ones someday.

I'd be remiss not to say that this hobby is, however, a money pit for the most part outside of budget builds... But if you're still interested after that warning, I think you should look into it! I find it a fun way to learn technical skills.

Knitting – I consider myself a very novice knitter. I've made small plushes and hats for the most part, and so haven't completed a big project yet. Unfortunately, I gave myself tendonitis while working on a big project (a jacket) and so haven't been able to return to this hobby in a while.

TTRPGs – I really enjoy TTRPGs! The primary one I've played is Dungeons & Dragons< (specifically 5e), but I've also played Pathfinder 2e and a little bit of Shadowrun. I'd like to try more off-the-beaten-path systems in the future – I want to play a Blades in the Dark campaign sometime for sure.

I tend to play non-Wizard spellcasters or Rogues in D&D. In my last completed campaign (Curse of Strahd), I played a Strength-based Rougebarian. It worked. I was the secondary tank. This may explain a lot about me.

Writing – While I write primarily fanfiction, I do have several original fiction pitches that I'd like to turn into short stories someday. I find myself primarily writing sci-fi or fantasy. I also really enjoy editing others' work, funnily enough!

I also enjoy scientific journal writing, which is crucial to what I hope my day job will be in the near future. Although I have to admit that table formatting will be the death of me...

fandom
A better subtitle might be "media", as I don't consider myself "in" all of these fandoms in an active way (ex. making/seeking out fanart or writing). However, if I titled this "media", I think it would be too vague.
I interpret "fandom" to mean a piece of media that I think about in a fandom-adjacent or transformative way.

DC Comics – I read enough comics to not be an average Joe, but not enough for me to really call myself a serious comics fan. My favorite DC character overall has to be pre-reboot Lonnie Machin/Anarky. I like a few Gotham Rogues as well: the Riddler and Mr. Freeze for the most part.

I also like J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter and Zatanna! I hope to read more comics in the near-ish future, but as you can see from this page I kind of have my plate full on things I like doing...

League of Legends – I specifically care for old lore (aka pre-2015/Institute of War retcon) and the worlds that my friends and I have built around it. I do care for some new champions, but tend to try to figure out how to slot them into my personal canon rather than take them at face value. I no longer play the game, nor do I care for Arcane as a TV show or fandom – although I do admire the artistry that went into its visual design.

I primarily like characters from Piltover and Zaun, mainly Viktor, Caitlyn, Jinx, Janna, Vi, and Orianna (in a vague order of most to least). I also like Rell, Quinn, and a handful of other champions... truthfully, if you give me enough time to think, I can probably convince myself to be invested in most champions to varying degrees of canon divergence.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (TV show) – It's 60s spies with homoeroticism that rivals Star Trek. What's there not to love? I own all the tie-in books and know a weird amount of trivia if prompted. Also, I hate the reboot movie but have to accept that it's the reason I know about the show, so...

Pathologic –Specifically Pathologic Classic HD, as I haven't played 2 yet. I'm a Clara fan through and through, which probably influences my thoughts on the endings quite a bit.

The Phantom of the Opera – Primarily the book, although I've seen the ALW musical twice.

Sherlock Holmes – ACD canon and the Granada/Jeremy Brett adaptation for the most part, although I do have a soft spot for the absurdity of Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century. I own the Baring-Gould annotated editions, although I don't consider myself a player of The Game in any capacity – I'd love to research Victoriana stuff, but I don't have the time.
